CEB raises target for electricity generation from renewable resources from the current 10% to 17% by the end of 2019
CEB wants to lift non-conventional renewable energy to 17-pct by 2019.

Sri Lanka’s state owned Ceylon Electricity Board has set a target to increase electricity generation from non conventional renewable resources from the current 10 percent to 17 percent by the end of 2019.
Increasing Non Conventional Renewable Energy (NCRE) generation composition is one performance target that CEB has agreed to adhere in line with new SOE improvement program.
It has also been decided to improve quality of electricity to customers by reducing system average interruption indicators from 95h to 80h by 2019.
Under the new plan, the CEB needs the system average interruptions frequency index which is commonly used as a reliability indicator by electric power utilities to reduce from 100 to 85.
The system average interruptions frequency index is the average number of interruptions that a customer would experience.
The CEB recorded an operating profit of 20 billion rupees in 2015 amidst reducing system losses to 10 percent in 2015 from 17 percent in 2007.
When setting targets, it has been assumed that VAT is applicable for coal procurement at 15 percent from 2017 and no fuel, coal or tariff revision is considered.
